||
|
Dear Resident
Humberside Police have received calls of a scam/fraud incidents. Recently the victim receives a call from a person saying they are from the police. Stating they are needing to catch someone at the bank and the victim must withdraw cash for fingerprints. The victim is asked to go to the bank and withdraw money and then 2 female police officers will attend to collect the money.
Incidents involving Fraud and Scams are increasing, and only 1 in 7 incidents are being reported to the Police.
To reduce the risk of becoming a victim of a fraud/scam, please read through the below advice.
In relation to Fraud or Scams remember to TAKE FIVE
STOP - Take a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information. It could keep you safe
CHALLENGE - Ask yourself, could it be fake? It’s ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you.
PROTECT - Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve been scammed and report it to Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk or on 0330 123 2040.
If you have any details about those involved in fraud, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. You don’t have to leave your name and you may even receive a reward. You can also provide information anonymously on the Crimestoppers website
For more information relating to scams, please find attached a copy of the little book of big scams, and also the Police Crime Prevention Handbook which covers a broad range of crime prevention advice.
Thank you
